Tokyo Game Show 2009: Sony announces Room for PSP, to be available Winter 2009
Room for PSP

Sony’s Playstation Home is constantly getting updates and support from both Sony and third party developers even though the general population share mixed feelings about the service. Despite its shortcomings, Playstation Home is technically a success story for Sony and it is bringing a similar experience to the PSP in Japan this Winter called Room for PSP.

Room (aka “R∞M”) is a free service that will be included in a firmware update before the end of 2009. Premium paid services will be introduced at a later date

It looks to have a more cartoony and friendly take on PS Home. Users will be able to create a 3D avatar and a room that expresses your own individuality. Once everything is set up the online social interaction aspect of Room starts to take off. Groups of users can gather in a room and chat or share blogs and albums with each other.

All PSP models past and present (including PSPgo) will be able to access this program. A closed beta will also be held in Japan to test out all the features before launch.

You can sign up for the Japanese beta at its official site now (began September 24, 2009) until October 5, 2009.
